We know they are coming. The conditions are turning in their favor. The air is getting warmer. The rain is creating standing water.
Yes, the mosquitoes are coming.
Can you predict exactly what minute of what hour of what day you will receive your first mosquito bite this year? Neither can I.
One of the more common questions we are receiving from clients right now is similar in nature.
Some of our clients are starting to share their worries that Congress is spending trillions of dollars that are not paid for by tax revenue, that the Federal Reserve is buying this debt and keeping interest rates low, and that prices on many items are starting to rise significantly.
The conditions appear to be right for some future economic pain. History has not been kind to countries that overspend and issue insurmountable amounts of debt, but it has also never been attempted by a country of our size and economic capacity.
Unfortunately, economics isn’t nearly the predictable science that mosquito hatching is.
It is quite easy to observe fiscal and monetary policies that make us uncomfortable and turn them into dire predictions that will unfold in the near future. However, all it takes is a real cold snap or a drought to delay the impending hatch, and conditions can change in politics as they do in nature.
Instead of living your spring in fear of the coming waves of mosquitos, we recommend enjoying one “warmer than winter” day at a time while making sure you have enough bug spray to last the summer.
Quote of the week: Winston Churchill: “The pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity, an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”
