Early Sunday morning a brand-new year was born, full of high hopes and resolutions.
Every new year is a chance to put the past in the past, to look to the future with optimism, and to reflect on the changes that could improve your life.
This morning a brand-new year was born, but practically no one noticed. There were no toasts, no glittering balls dropping, and no new resolutions. Instead, your daily routine likely took hold (adjusted for any surviving resolutions for the time being).
Yet, this morning was something to celebrate. Today is the very first day of the next 12 months of your life, just like New Year’s Day.
Why don’t we celebrate every morning by giving ourselves a clean slate and identifying improvements we can make to help us reach our goals?
The simple answer is it would likely be exhausting.
As much as we enjoy a clean break with the past, forcing ourselves to think about our shortcomings and develop implementable strategies for overcoming them every stinking morning is way too much work. Following routines is just so much easier.
Using New Year’s Day as the once-per-year excuse that it is, maybe this is a good time to take a look at your financial routines and see if a few adjustments could be made to build a potentially brighter future for you and your family.
In 2022 we were not-so-gently reminded that so much of the world we live in is outside of our control. However, you retain the freedom to decide how much you contribute to
your retirement accounts, how much debt you take on, how much investment and inflation risk you take, and how well prepared your family is for unexpected shocks.
We look forward to serving our clients faithfully in 2023. Have a blessed year (every day)!

Quote of the week:
Richard Russell: “Most people have a hard time envisioning change, and they are almost incapable of envisioning major change. Most people are guided by their experience of the immediate past. If the past was good, they believe the future will be good. If the past was rotten, they believe the future will continue to be rotten. Yet anyone who has studied the history of the stock market knows this is not true.”
